Driving and Recreation Rules Renewed in France

The International Road Transport Union announced that new regulations on driving and resting rules have been put into force in France. With the new regulations, there will be an increase in penal sanctions.

As you know, employers of vehicle drivers must ensure that their employees rest in a healthy and hygienic accommodation facility. Drivers are strictly prohibited to spend these specified rest periods in the vehicle. The penalty for non-compliance with this rule within the borders of France will be near 3,000 Euros as of 3 September 2020.

With the last arrangements the rest periods of the drivers are stated below.

– Following the last rest period, no less than 12 hours of rest can be made after 6 consecutive days of work. Otherwise, 450 Euro penalty will be applied.

– Following the last rest period, no less than 12 hours of rest can be made after 12 consecutive days of work. Otherwise, a penalty of 1,500 Euros will be applied.
