Latest Situation at Iran – Turkmenistan Border Crossings

On 23 February 2020, Iran-Turkmenistan land border gates were closed unilaterally. Turkish drivers waiting at the Loft Abad Border Gate at that time began to return to our country as of March 9, 2020.

Around 70-80 Turkish drivers who are still waiting at the Loft Abad Border Gate demand to return to our country as passengers by leaving their vehicles in the truck parks with the requests of the companies they work with. On the other hand the Iranian side demands that these vehicles should not be obstructed to vehicles that want to pass from customs areas.

Our official institutions announced that the border crossings of Turkmenistan are unlikely to open any time soon. Companies requesting to leave their vehicles should not decide without considering this detail.

First of all drivers should receive a signed letterhead from the company they work. When leaving the country, they must submit a petition to the customs authorities that explains the situation. It is also important to provide a document proving that the vehicle is left in the truck park in order to avoid any legal problems in the future. Drivers who complete these procedures are required to leave Iran because of the high coronavirus risk.

There is no problem in the Serakhs Border Gate and our drivers will return to Turkey in a short time.
